What are the requirements for student to participate in the Program?

  • Must be a junior or senior at a Leon County Schools high school.
  • 2.5 Minimum GPA
  • No more than 5 absences per nine weeks
  • Must be enrolled in or have completed a Career & Technical Education (CTE) course or program that aligns with the Junior Apprenticeship position.
  • Must be able to work 10-15 hours per week, Monday through Friday during the hours of 1PM to 5PM.
  • Must be able to provide your own transportation.

How long is the Junior Apprenticeship Program?

Selected Junior Apprentices will work in a Leon County department for one school year, during the Fall and Spring semesters.

How much do Junior Apprentices earn?

Junior Apprentices earn the hourly minimum wage ($8.10/hour). Up to $375 in incentives may also be earned for continuous engagement in the CareerSource Capital Region Dynamic Futures training.

What is Career & Technical Education (CTE)?

A CTE course or program prepares students to earn an industry-recognized certification or licensure.

Can I apply for more than one Junior Apprentice position?

Students may only apply for one Junior Apprenticeship position.

If I participated in the Junior Apprenticeship Program last year, can I apply again?

Past Junior Apprentices are not eligible to reapply for the program, but should consider applying for County’s Summer Youth Training Program.

If I don’t have a car and my parents aren’t able to drive me to work, can I still participate in the Program?

Yes! Free public transportation is available to all K-12 students in Leon County through the StarMetro Bus System. For more information about StarMetro and their bus routes, visit www.talgov.com/starmetro or call (850) 891-5200.

Will I receive academic credit for participating in the Junior Apprenticeship Program?

Yes, students participating in the program will take the Junior Apprenticeship as an elective during their last class period. Before applying to the Program, students should meet with their guidance counselor to discuss whether the Junior Apprenticeship will fit into their course schedule.

What will I learn during the CareerSource Capital Region Dynamic Futures Training?

During the Dynamic Futures training provided by CareerSource Capital Region, you will learn about budgeting, time management, customer service, being a team player, and more! You will also take courses that will result in certifications for all of the Microsoft Office Suite products and will create a portfolio to showcase your hard work!
